READ THE CLOTH CHALLENGE

These terms cover entry to the Read the Cloth Challenge and any fabric bought from Quilt Africa Fabrics in connection with it. By entering or purchasing, you agree to them. They're written plainly on purpose — but they are binding.
01 Who can enter
The challenge is open to quilters and makers of any level, anywhere in the world. There is no age restriction to make a piece, but entrants under 18 should have a parent or guardian's permission, and any prize will be issued to the guardian.
02 Entry
• Entry is $10 per piece.
• You may enter as many finished pieces as you like, in any category.
• If the entry fee is a genuine barrier, contact us before the deadline to arrange a hardship entry.
• Entry fees are non-refundable once a piece is submitted, except where required by law.
03 What you submit
• A finished piece in one of the four categories (Art Quilt, Wall Hanging, Quilt, or Wearable), meeting the stated size and fabric guidelines, including the requirement that at least 75% of the piece is African fabric.
• Up to four clear digital photographs of the finished piece, submitted by the deadline of 31 October 2026.
• Wearables must be photographed on a model or mannequin.
• The work must be your own. You confirm you made it and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.
IMPORTANT — IMAGE RIGHTS
By submitting your photographs, you grant Quilt Africa Fabrics a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display and share images of your entry — in the challenge gallery and voting, on our website and social media, in emails, and in future promotion of Quilt Africa and its programmes. You keep ownership of your quilt and your images; we simply have permission to show them, with credit to you by the name you provide. If you would prefer your work not be used beyond the voting gallery, tell us at submission and we will honour that.
04 Judging, voting and prizes
There is no judging panel. Winners are chosen by Community Choice (public vote) and Curator's Pick (selected by Miriam).
Community Choice voting is one vote per person per category. We take reasonable steps to keep voting fair; decisions on eligibility and validity of votes rest with Quilt Africa Fabrics and are final.
Winners announced on or around 12 November 2026.
Prizes (BOM 2027 months, fabric credit, and features) are as described, non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash.
05 Fabric orders
Akwete is handwoven and sourced in small runs. Fabric is supplied on a made-to-order basis. Colourways described as "mystery" or "my pick" are chosen at our discretion.
Because cloth is handmade, slight variations in colour, weave and size are natural and are not defects.
Orders ship within 1–3 business days. Delivery typically takes 14–21 days; timeframes are estimates, not guarantees, and can be affected by customs and couriers.
Prices are in US dollars and exclude shipping. Any import duties or taxes on delivery are the buyer's responsibility except in the United States, or stated otherwise.
06 Returns
Because fabric is cut and curated to order, we are unable to accept returns of fabric except where an item arrives faulty or incorrect. If something is wrong, contact us within 14 days of delivery with photographs and we will make it right.
07 Liability
Quilt Africa Fabrics is not liable for entries lost, delayed or damaged in transit or submission, nor for indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability where it cannot lawfully be limited.
08 Changes
We may adjust dates or details of the challenge where necessary, and will communicate any material change to registered participants. These terms are governed by the laws applicable to Quilt Africa Fabrics' place of business.
